1 April 2010: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Bureau for Weights and Measures organized a workshop on “Measurement Challenges for Global Observation Systems for Climate Change Monitoring — Traceability, Stability and Uncertainty” from 1-3 April 2010, at WMO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. European Commission Adopts Proposal on Global Health [viewed]

31 March 2010: Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, is holding bilateral talks on climate change with developed and developing countries, to follow up on the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. Hedegaard visited the US and Mexico in early March 2010, met with the Chinese delegation in late March in Brussels, Belgium, and will visit Maldives and India in early April.

UN to Launch UN Development Assistance Framework in China [viewed]

29 March 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has announced that the UN, in cooperation with the Government of China, will launch the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for China 2011-2015, on 1 April 2010, in Beijing, China. A key overall focus area is that the Chinese Government and other stakeholders ensure environmental sustainability, address climate change, and promote a green, low carbon economy.

Event: International Symposium on Climate Change Effects on Fish and Fisheries: Forecasting Impacts, Assessing Ecosystem Responses and Evaluating Management Strategies [viewed]

This symposium is supported by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the North Pacific Marine Sciences Organization (PICES). Participants will: discuss techniques for investigating the impacts of climate change on populations of fish and shellfish in capture and cultured fisheries; examine observational, analytical and modelling approaches; identify analytical techniques for forecasting climate change impacts on marine fish and shellfish populations; and discuss policies and strategies for society and users of marine resources to consider in the face of a changing climate and altered marine ecosystems.
