Advisory Group Highlights Sustainable Transport for Addressing Climate Change, SDGs [viewed]

United Nations7 December 2015: The UN Secretary-General's High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport, including leaders from the public and private sectors and representing all modes of transport, met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, government representatives and other stakeholders on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference, aiming to advance implementation of climate-related solutions. The 16 members of the Group asserted that, through innovation in operations, policy and technology, the transport sector can lower emissions while ensuring access to markets, services and social interaction for people.

LPAA Results in Over 70 Major Climate Action Initiatives [viewed]

lpaa9 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), which convened on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference, illustrated the “massive and rising response by cities, regions, business and civil society to take ambitious climate action, frequently in cooperation with national governments,” according to the UNFCCC Secretariat. The LPAA resulted in over 70 major initiatives from nearly 10,000 actors from 180 countries on agriculture, building, business, cities, forests, innovation, private finance, resilience, short-lived climate pollutants, transport and water.

LPAA Launches 5-Year Vision for Climate Action by Cities, Regions [viewed]

lpaa8 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), a partnership of governments and the UN, launched a five-year vision aiming to strengthen action on climate change by cities and regions, on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference. The LPAA is led jointly by the Governments of Peru and France, the Office of the UN Secretary-General, and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Global Compact8 December 2015: The third annual Caring for Climate Business Forum brought together 400 business leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to discuss how business can accelerate action for climate change mitigation, and to announce new commitments by business leaders and joint initiatives. The event showed that a growing number of businesses is taking forward-looking actions to develop viable business models in support of a low-carbon economy.

The event featured progress and commitments in the freight, refrigeration, solid waste, oil and gas sectors as well as a proposal to phase-down the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) under the Montreal Protocol.

lpaa1 December 2015: A special event on forests, held as part of the Paris Climate Change Conference and under the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), showcased partnerships, commitments and implementation strategies to protect and restore forests, and endorsed them as a key climate solution. The LPAA is a joint undertaking of the Peruvian and French Presidencies of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC, the Office of the UN Secretary-General and the UNFCCC Secretariat.

LPAA Agriculture Event Showcases Initiatives on Soils, Livestock, Food Waste and Production [viewed]

lpaa1 December 2015: A half-day event on agriculture took place under the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA) and as part of the Paris Climate Change Conference, presenting six cooperative initiatives to drive the growth of climate-resilient, productive and low-emissions agriculture. As the UNFCCC notes, agriculture is one of the sectors most seriously affected by extreme climate, but it also accounts for 24% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause climate change.

UN Secretary-General Launches Climate Resilience Initiative [viewed]

cop2130 November 2015: At the opening of the Paris Climate Change Conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the launch of an initiative to build the resilience of the world's most vulnerable populations against impacts of climate change and natural disasters. Led by the Ban in collaboration with 13 UN entities, the initiative will enhance vulnerable populations' capacities to anticipate hazards, absorb shocks and reshape development to reduce risks.
