DESA Analyzes SIDS Sustainable Development Trends [viewed]

DESAAugust 2014: Despite advances toward sustainable development, small island developing States (SIDS) continue to face many challenges, according to ‘Trends in Sustainable Development: SIDS,' a publication issued by the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) as an input to the Third International Conference on SIDS. The report assesses SIDS' progress in key sustainable development areas: climate change; demographics; energy; finance and trade; health and non-communicable diseases (NCDs); natural disaster management; oceans and seas; social development, including education, food security, gender equality and access to water and sanitation; tourism; and waste management.

DESA to Recognize Innovative Sustainable Energy Practices [viewed]

UNEP Foresight Report Identifies Emerging Issues for SIDS [viewed]

UNEPJune 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has published a report on priority issues for small island developing States (SIDS). ‘Emerging Issues for Small Island Developing States: Results of the UNEP Foresight Process' is one of UNEP's contributions to the Third International SIDS Conference convening in Apia, Samoa, in September 2014, and it is aligned with one of the thematic issues of the Conference: “identify new and emerging challenges and opportunities for the sustainable development of SIDS and ways and means to address them.”

UN Secretary-General Appoints Three-Year Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport [viewed]

United Nations8 August 2014: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has established a High-level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport, announcing the Group's membership on 8 August 2014. The Group aims to promote accelerated implementation of sustainable transport, in line with objectives to address climate change, protect the global environment and ecosystems and promote inclusive and equitable growth and social development.
