EMG SOM20 Focuses on UN System-Wide Strategy on Environment, SDGs [viewed]

Report on SE4ALL Decade Presented to UNGA Second Committee [viewed]

SE4ALL17 October 2014: The UN Secretary-General's report on the 'UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All' (SE4ALL) has been presented to the Second (Economic and Financial) Committee of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). The report (A/69/395), presented on 15 October in New York, US, lays out a global plan of action for the Decade and suggests ways to realize SE4ALL in support of the post-2015 development agenda.

Event: Transport Day 2014 [viewed]

The Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and the Bridging the Gap Initiative (BtG) are organizing Transport Day 2014 during the 20th session of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP 20). The event is organized around the theme 'Transport Tackles Climate Change @ Transport Day 2014' and will feature a series break-out and plenary sessions aiming to raise the profile of the transport sector's climate change mitigation potential. Transport Day will aim to encourage the integration of transport into mitigation and adaptation policy making under the UNFCCC, ensure such and tools and resources as Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems, and technology transfer are appropriate for the transport sector.

Disaster Reduction Day Focuses on Contributions of Older People [viewed]

The Day focused on the theme ‘Resilience is for Life,' with celebrations that: called for a more inclusive approach for older people in DRR; emphasized their needs; recognized their role in and contribution to better planning and understanding of disaster risk; and addressed how they can help build resilience in their communities using their experience and knowledge.

Event: Workshop for Energy Regulators: Energy Pricing, Reform and Transition [viewed]

This expert group meeting on fuel price reform and renewable energy energy transitions, taking place from 29-31 October 2014, is organized by the UN Office of Sustainable Development (UNOSD), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Global Subsidies Initiative (GSI) of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). The workshop will specifically focus on fuel pricing reform as a measure necessary for the transition to renewable energy, and complements a UNOSD workshop series on 'Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy Transitions'. The workshop also builds on work by the organizing partners to build a network of fuel price regulators, and will benefit policymakers from approximately 20 African and Asian countries. Themes covered are: technical issues associated to energy policy; energy transition and political economy of reforms; and reform lessons and work plan building.
