7 December 2011: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Annual Ministerial Review Regional Preparatory meeting for Asia and the Pacific has heard calls for greater regional cooperation in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The meeting convened in Kyoto, Japan, on 7 December 2011.
7 December 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on countries to show leadership and ensure that any remaining differences on the design of the Green Climate Fund are resolved in Durban, so the Fund can be launched. Stressing that the Fund “must not be an empty shell,” he urged industrialized countries to inject sufficient initial capital to allow the Fund to begin its work immediately.
7 December 2011: Speaking at a side-event held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for support to REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries).
6 December 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged governments to take a long-term view on renewable energy during his address at the Business for Environment (B4E) COP 17 Dialogue, convened in Durban, South Africa. The Dialogue, titled "Powering ahead for a clean industrial revolution," aimed to facilitate collaboration and forge partnerships between business, government and NGOs, in order to develop products and services that will revolutionize industries and deliver transformative change.
6 December 2011: On the first day of high-level talks at the Durban Climate Change Conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Parties to the UNFCCC to move forward on key issues and keep up momentum, even as a comprehensive and binding agreement may be “beyond our reach” in Durban, where governments are gathered for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC.
1 December 2011: The Fourth High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness adopted a declaration titled the "Busan Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation." The Forum reviewed global progress on aid effectiveness, including a review of targets set in the 2005 Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, shared experiences in delivering the best results, and developed new commitments toward effectiveness of aid in reducing poverty, achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and supporting development beyond 2015.
28 November 2011: The UN Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) has announced the introduction of digital press and book binder, which has enabled DGACM to print on demand, reduce costs and save paper.
23 November 2011: Addressing the UN Security Council debate on international peace and security, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon cited organized crime, pandemics and the effects of climate change as "daunting challenges" to the maintenance of international peace and security.
18 November 2011: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has recognized the Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as the first UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) global champion of disaster risk reduction (DRR). This appointment was officially made at the 19th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, which convened in Bali, Indonesia, from 17-19 November 2011.
19 November 2011: The UN Secretariat and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have concluded a Joint Declaration on a Comprehensive Partnership on the occasion of the fourth ASEAN-UN Summit, held on 19 November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia.
