9 November 2012: The 67th Session of the UN General Assembly Second Committee convened a two-day dialogue on disaster risk reduction (DRR).  According to the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), many states made reference to the need for sustainable development to be approached holistically, incorporating DRR.

UNISDR, UNESCO Convene Retreat on Post-Hyogo Disaster Framework [viewed]

19 November 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened a two-day UN High-Level Retreat to initiate work on a UN strategic plan for disaster risk reduction. Attended by representatives from 20 UN agencies, the Retreat was held from 19-20 November, in Paris, France.

UNGA President Urges Agreement, Accelerated Progress on SDG Working Group [viewed]

13 November: President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Vuk Jeremić, has called for States to reach consensus on the membership of the working group on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a speech to the UNGA Second Committee. He also stressed coordination and complementarity between the SDGs and the post-2015 development agenda.

8 November 2012: The UN Global Compact and Accenture have released 19 sectoral reports within the theme of "Sustainable Energy for All: The Business Opportunity." The reports identify priority activities and challenges for businesses to support the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative.

UNGA Convenes Informal Session on Hurricane Sandy [viewed]

9 November 2012: UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Vuk Jeremić convened an informal meeting of the Assembly to address issues arising from Hurricane Sandy. The session detailed the monies allocated for affected countries from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on countries to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

UNGA Second Committee Considers Sustainable Urban Development, Strengthening UN-HABITAT [viewed]

1 November 2012: The UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee considered issues relevant to the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), including discussion of two reports, in a meeting on 1 November 2012, in New York, US. Joan Clos, Executive Director, UN-HABITAT, said the Third UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Development (Habitat III) in 2016 should reinvigorate sustainable urban development commitments and produce a political outcome document.
