5 July 2011: A meeting of regional and international experts on “Promoting Emissions Reductions in the Transport Sector” was convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Africa (ESCWA) and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Gas Centre from 5-6 July 2011, in Beirut, Lebanon, to discuss the transport sector's impact on climate change.
29 April 2011: The second Session of the Group of Experts on Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21), under the aegis of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), met on 18 April 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland.
December 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the League of Arab States have launched the "Third Arab Report on the Millennium Development Goals 2010 and the Impact of the Economic Crisis."
18 January 2011: The UN launched a report titled "World Economic Situation and Prospects 2011," which provides that fiscal policies, in tandem with income and structural policies, will need to be reoriented to foster job creation and green growth.
This Expert Group Meeting (EGM) is organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). It aims to take stock and exchange experiences of Arab countries, as well as that of regional and international organizations, on climate change modeling methodologies, tools, model projections, downscaling techniques and knowledge gaps, as well as ways in which vulnerability can be assessed in view of better understanding the effects of climate change on sustainable development in the Arab region.
June 2010: The five UN regional commissions have released a report titled "Financing Global Climate Change Mitigation."
11 June 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has hosted a series of energy and climate meetings at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The first meeting of the Group of Experts of the Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21) Project convened on 10 June 2010. It was preceded by the 15th Session of the Ad Hoc Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency Investments for Climate Change Mitigation, on 9 June 2010, and followed by the 21th Session of the Steering Committee of the GEE21 Project, on 11 June.
The fifth World Urban Forum (WUF-5), which took place from 22-26 March 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme “The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide,” was hosted by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Government of Brazil.
March 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) released a study in its Energy Series titled “Financing Global Climate Change Mitigation,” as the result of work conducted by all five UN Regional Commissions in the context of the Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21) Project, launched in December 2008 by UNECE.
The second Africa Carbon Forum, which was held from 3-5 March 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya, sought to help build on growing interest in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Africa, and concluded with expectations for a boost in Africa's share of the global carbon market.
