The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) subregional headquarters for the Caribbean will be hosting a roundtable to discuss the impacts of climate change on adaptive policy in the Caribbean. The meeting will consider initiatives on climatic modeling that have already been conducted in the subregion and discuss the new initiative titled “Understanding potential economic impacts of climate change in LAC.”
11 June 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has hosted a series of energy and climate meetings at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The first meeting of the Group of Experts of the Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21) Project convened on 10 June 2010. It was preceded by the 15th Session of the Ad Hoc Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency Investments for Climate Change Mitigation, on 9 June 2010, and followed by the 21th Session of the Steering Committee of the GEE21 Project, on 11 June.
The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will host a seminar to examine the possible impacts on Latin American and Caribbean trade of efforts to assess the “carbon footprint” of goods and services.

23 April 2010:The People's World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth convened in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from 19-22 April 2010. An initiative of Bolivian President Evo Morales, the Conference provided a forum to discuss the structural and systemic causes of climate change and propose substantive measures that facilitate the well-being of mankind in harmony with nature.
The 33rd session of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will review ECLAC activities and adopt a programme for the next biennium, including on activities related to sustainable development and climate change.
9 April 2010: During a session of the World Economic Forum for Latin America 2010, which convened in Cartagena, Colombia, Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), highlighted policies and strategies that may be adopted to promote low-carbon economies.
The fifth World Urban Forum (WUF-5), which took place from 22-26 March 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme “The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide,” was hosted by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Government of Brazil.
