9 December 2011: The 21st session of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) included a session on "Standards and regulations: tool for promoting sustainable development."
December 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published a report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 29 emerging economies in the UNECE region, gathering 10 post-transition EU Member States as well as 12 post-Soviet republics in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia and 7 countries in South-Eastern Europe.
15 December 2011: Experts from governments, international organizations, NGOs and industry participated in a panel on "Forests 2030: The future of forests in Europe and North America," in Geneva, Switzerland. The panel was chaired by Michael Zammit Cutajar, former UNFCCC Executive Secretary, under the patronage of Janusz Zaleski, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Environment, Poland.
18 October 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on countries of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to continue tackling the world's most looming issues and work together to ensure the prosperity of future generations, when addressing for the first time the UNECE Executive Committee.
13 October 2011: Andrey Vasilyev, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and Saghit Ibatullin, Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), have announced a regional project on the forestation of the dry bed of the Aral Sea.
26 September 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized a national seminar in Kyrgyzstan focused on the question “How can transboundary water cooperation help in adaptation to climate change?”
23 September 2011: The seventh “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference concluded with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration titled “Save water, grow green!” Through the Declaration, ministers agree to take the lead in the transition to a green economy and to make substantive contributions to the discussions on green economy within the context of sustainable development, poverty alleviation and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
22 September 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released the European Forest Sector Outlook Study II (EFSOS II) 2010-2030, which covers the 27 members of the EU, as well as Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, illustrating the consequences of today's policy choices for the future of forests.
21 September 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released the "Second Assessment of Transboundary Rivers, Lakes and Groundwaters," which underlines that the status of transboundary waters is improving in many parts of the UNECE region thanks to the efforts to protect waters and the environment.
31 August 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published a report highlighting success stories of its technical cooperation work, including on climate change, biodiversity and energy.
