27 June 2011: Speaking at the opening of the 19th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union Commission (AUC), leaders of the AU and other Africa regional organizations highlighted Africa's economic progress and called for a greater role and support for Africa's youth in efforts to achieve sustainable development.
May 2011: The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) has released the May issue of its newsletter, titled "GEO News" on new developments in the implementation of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), which highlights advances in climate observation collaboration in the US and Europe.
3 June 2011: The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Three Rainforest Basins, namely the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong basins, took place in Brazzaville, Congo, from 27 May-3 June 2011, to establish new ways to increase technical cooperation on forest matters, and adopted a joint statement on tropical forests, climate and sustainable development.
20 May 2011: The African Forum on Financing for Development, organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in collaboration with its development partners, focused on reviewing progress, examining key thematic issues relating to development finance in Africa, and proposing the way forward on issues relating to development finance for Africa.
12 May 2011: The African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the UN Commission for Africa (UNECA) have launched a Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO) to support common African policy positions vis-à-vis the donor community and global fora, such as the G20 with regard to infrastructure development and climate change.
2 May 2011: The second session of UNECA's Committee on Development Information Science and Technology (CODIST-II) is convening from 2-5 May 2011, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme “Innovation for Industrial Development in Africa.”
29 April 2011: The second Session of the Group of Experts on Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21), under the aegis of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), met on 18 April 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland.
6 April 2011: The second Pan-African Climate and Health workshop was held from 4-6 April 2011, as part of the African region's preparation for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC to be held in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year.
2 April 2011: The Conference on Hydropower for Sustainable Development in Africa took place 31 March - 1 April 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Conference focused on the following themes: Africa renewable energy potential, including hydropower development in Ethiopia; regional cooperation for water and energy, including transboundary issues; sustainability and good practices; and finance and investments.
29 March 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU) have published the 2011 Economic Report on Africa, titled “Governing Development in Africa: The Role of the State in Economic Transformation.”
