African Negotiators Define Desirable Copenhagen Outcome [viewed]

© UNEP23 October 2009: The Technical Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) Pre-COP 15 (Second Meeting of the African High Level Expert Panel on Climate Change) convened from 19-23 October 2009, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and concluded with a call for a “fair, inclusive, effective and equitable new agreement in Copenhagen.” The session was the initiative of AMCEN and the African Union (AU), in collaboration with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

UNECE-FAO Forum Underscores Role of Forest Sector in Reducing Emissions, Green Economy [viewed]

UNECE-FAO Workshop Highlights Green Building for Climate Change Mitigation [viewed]

© UNECE21 October 2009: A workshop on “Responding to climate change: wood's place in a global approach to green building,” was organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) during the Timber Committee Week, held from 12-16 October 2009. Among the workshop's conclusions was agreement that green building is a solution to climate change mitigation: energy-efficient construction for new buildings and renovation of existing buildings can reduce 40-50% of energy used for space and water heating.

ECA, UNEP and UNDP Organize Gender and Climate Sensitization Training Workshop [viewed]

© UNECA19 October 2009: Participants at a three-day sensitization training on gender and climate change resolved to encourage political leaders and African lead negotiators to integrate gender issues into the climate change negotiations ahead of COP 15 in Copenhagen. The training, which was part of the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration of the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders for the Environment, was organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the collaboration of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

UNDP and IDB Host High-Level Meeting for Latin American Officials to Discuss Climate Financing Options [viewed]
