GEF, UNDESA and UNESCAP Collaborate in Capacity Building Initiative on Financing Sustainable Electrification [viewed]
10 September 2009: The e8 group of electric utility companies, in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) recently convened a conference on “Financing Sustainable Electrification: South and South-East Asia Dialogues,” in Bangkok, Thailand.
11 September 2009: The International Conference on Green Industry in Asia, titled “Managing the transition to resource efficient and low carbon industries,” concluded with the adoption of a non-binding Declaration and Framework of Action outlining steps to reduce the resource intensity and greenhouse gas emissions of industries in Asia, and to track the progress towards a low-carbon industrial future. 
2 September 2009: The Africa Partnership Forum's (APF) one-day high-level session on climate change in Africa concluded with an expression of the region's determination to make a significant contribution to efforts at reducing global emissions. 
31 August 2009: Government officials from across South-East Asia have gathered in western Thailand for a six-day UN seminar on how countries can implement low-carbon strategies that will also boost economic growth. 
5 August 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) organized a meeting of the network on Sustainable Energy, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management to discuss national and sectoral climate change strategies. 
4 August 2009: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have released the Forest Products Annual Market Review for 2008-2009, which indicates that the economic crisis has impacted severely the forest products sector across the UNECE region, except for the wood energy sector. 
July 2009: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific's (UNESCAP) Green Growth Capacity Development Team has finalized the first draft of its Green Growth training of trainers toolkit. 
17 July 2009: The Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (or Aarhus Convention), is set to enter into force on 8 October 2009, following France's ratification, which was deposited with the UN Secretary-General on 10 July 2009.
