17 February 2010: The “Weekly” newsletter of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), for the period 15-19 February 2010, announces that UNECE and the Methane to Markets Partnership have elaborated “Best Practice Guidance for Effective Methane Drainage and Use in Coal Mines.”
The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)/UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Timber section, in cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO), will organize a workshop to discuss tariff and non-tariff trade barriers and emerging trade regulations on timber. Participants will discuss the economic impacts of trade and trade-related measures on timber markets, taking into account the link between trade liberalization and the key challenges facing the forest-based sector, including climate change.
8 February 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Weekly newsletter, for the period 8-12 February 2010, reports on the first meeting of the Working Group on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for the UNECE region, which convened on 5 February 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland.
4 February 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has released the Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2009, which includes sections on demographic, social and environmental aspects.
9 February 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) convened the Pacific High Level Dialogue on the five-year review of the Mauritius Strategy from 8-9 February 2010, in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
7 February 2010: Several UN experts participated in the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, titled “Beyond Copenhagen: New Pathways to Sustainable Development,” which was held in New Delhi, India, from 5-7 February 2010, and organized by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
This meeting will be convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and will review progress made in implementing the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which covers the decade 2005-2015. A regional synthesis report, which assesses the countries' achievements so far and proposes a strategy for future action, will be presented for endorsement by the Pacific SIDS Government delegates during the meeting.
29 January 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) convened, in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the 42nd session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee.
25 January 2010: The “Weekly” newsletter of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for the period 25-29 January 2010 reports on the first meeting in 2010 of the Executive Secretaries of the UN Regional Commissions, which included discussions on the outcome of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.
20 January 2010: The UN Economic Comission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have signed an agreement to produce a series of studies on the economics of climate change in eight South American countries.
