ECLAC to Strengthen Caribbean Coordination in Support of BPOA/MSI Implementation [viewed]

28 May 2012: At the fourth meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Caribbean's Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM) for the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI) of the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) for the Sustainable Development of small island developing States (SIDS), it was decided that the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean would review how best to strengthen regional coordination on the sustainable development agenda.

24 May 2012: Asia-Pacific governments attending the 68th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) called for inclusive and sustainable regional growth, with the aim of closing development gaps among and within Asia-Pacific countries, and setting economic progress on a greener pathway. ECLAC Assesses Impact of Tropical Depression 12-E [viewed]

4 May 2012: The subregional headquarters for Mexico and Central America of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has issued an assessment of the impact of Tropical Depression 12-E on Central America. The assessment includes, at the behest of Central American Heads of State, some reflections on the regional policy implications of tropical storms that appear to be increasing in frequency and severity due to climate change.

Pacific Island Leaders Call for Support to Address Climate Change and Marine Protection [viewed]

Event: 68th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

The 68th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will focus on a four-track strategy to promote shared, sustainable and inclusive growth in the region by promoting market integration, physical connectivity, financial cooperation and joint action to address common vulnerabilities arising from shrinking resources and climate threats. The session will comprise both a senior officials segment (17-19 May), and a ministerial segment (21-23 May). The ministerial segment will include: a roundtable on the "Growing Together: Economic Integration for an Inclusive and Sustainable Asia-Pacific Century;" and a high-level panel on "Steering inclusive development amidst global turbulence and volatility". UNECE Meeting on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution Amends Gothenburg Protocol [viewed]

UNECE4 May 2012: The 30th Session of the Executive Body for the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) adopted amendments to the 1999 Gothenburg Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone (Gothenburg Protocol). The amendments include national emission reduction commitments to be achieved by 2020 and beyond, and address, for the first time, particulate matter, including black carbon, a short-lived climate forcer.

EU Grants €8 Million to ClimDev Africa [viewed]
