24 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has received a number of submissions from intergovernmental organizations containing ideas and proposals on the elements of paragraph 1 of the Bali Action Plan.
7 April 2009: The World Health Organization (WHO) and international partners, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), celebrated World Health Day on 7 April 2009, in Beijing, China, focusing on the theme “Save lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies.”
3 April 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) presented the results of the ART Initiative, which was designed by a group of UN Agencies under UNDP's leadership (namely the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the UN Development Fund for Women, the World Health Organization and UNOPS) to promote the strategic and operational articulation among the development cooperation institutions and programmes in support of national policies and local dynamics of governance and local development.
12 March 2009: Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) presented findings regarding climate change impacts to human health at the international scientific congress titled “Climate Change: Global Risks, Challenges and Decisions,” which ran from 10-12 March 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark. They noted the “adverse consequences” of climate change on health, highlighted the challenges inherent in addressing resulting impacts, and stressed the health benefits of mitigation activities. In addition, they underscored the uneven distribution of health impacts of climate change globally, identifying populations in small island developing States, mountainous regions, large urban areas, coastal areas, and areas that lack access to water among the most vulnerable.
19 February 2009: The 2010 Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, which will convene in Parma, Italy, will discuss children's environmental health and climate impacts related to inequality, gender and stakeholder participation, among other agenda items.
19 February 2009: World Health Organization (WHO)/Europe is collaborating with local contacts to conduct assessments of health security and crisis management.
19 February 2009: The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved a five-year work plan on climate change and health.
22 January 2009: The High-level Meeting on Transport, Health and Environment, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe and the UN Economic Commission for Europe, and hosted by the Government of the Netherlands, is being held from 22-23 January 2009, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
November 2008: The Second Conference on Adaptation to
Climate Change in Developing Countries will convene on 25 November 2008, in The
Hague, the Netherlands. Plenary speakers will include representatives from the
World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as decision makers
from the EU and developing countries.
14 October 2008: The World Health Organization (WHO)
Regional Office for Europe, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and
the European Food Safety Authority held a seminar in Rome, Italy, in
conjunction with the celebration of World Food Day (16 October), to discuss
health implications of climate impacts on nutrition, food and water safety.
