UNWTO, UNEP Launch International Partnership on Sustainable Tourism [viewed]

unep-wto5 November 2014: A new international programme to catalyze sustainable tourism over the next decade was launched at the World Travel Market (WTM 2014). The Sustainable Tourism Programme of the Ten-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP) will be led by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Governments of France, the Republic of Korea and Morocco, with the support of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), which hosts the 10YFP Secretariat.

World Congress Discusses Diversification of Tourism in Mountain Regions [viewed]

UNWTO15 April 2014: The Eighth World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism gathered under the theme ‘Mountainlikers: New Trends in Mountain Tourism for the Summer Season' to discuss opportunities for strengthening the economic competitiveness of mountain regions that are heavily dependent on seasonal tourism. A main objective of the Congress is the development of an overview of successful business models and innovations, especially given the projected impacts of climate change.

Event: Sustainable Tourism through Energy Efficiency with Adaptation and Mitigation Measures in Pangandaran [viewed]

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia are presenting their jointly implemented project “Sustainable Tourism through Energy Efficiency with Adaptation and Mitigation Measures in Pangandaran” (STREAM), at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) Berlin 2013. The event will discuss how the project be adapted and transferred to other tourism destinations in Indonesia and worldwide.

Event: Forum on Tourism, Sustainability and Climate Change in Central America [viewed]

Jointly organized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the National Chamber of Tourism of Honduras, with support from the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Adaptation Fund, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Honduras' Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat (SERNA) and several national and regional tourism bodies, this Forum aims to focus on the impact of climate change on Central America's tourism sector, strengthen the sector's ability to address climate change threats and challenges, examine adaptation opportunities and techniques, and discuss steps to implement the 2007 Davos Declaration on Climate Change and Tourism Responding to Global Challenges. The Forum will feature roundtables on: sustainable tourism opportunities; climate impacts and adaptation in coastal tourist destinations; climate impacts and adaptation in cultural and natural tourism destinations; climate change and mitigation measures in the tourism sector; and policies for climate change and tourism. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) provides secretariat services to the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) and the World Bank serves as trustee of the Adaptation Fund, both on an interim basis.

UNISDR, UNESCO Convene Retreat on Post-Hyogo Disaster Framework [viewed]

19 November 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened a two-day UN High-Level Retreat to initiate work on a UN strategic plan for disaster risk reduction. Attended by representatives from 20 UN agencies, the Retreat was held from 19-20 November, in Paris, France.
