UNITAR Develops Programme to Build Capacity on DRR [viewed]

Unitar17 January 2014: To develop and adopt a post-2015 disaster risk reduction (DRR) framework to replace the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) is organizing a number of international consultations and two formal preparatory committees. The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) will hold technical one-day courses in conjunction with the preparatory committee sessions to strengthen the capacity of diplomats and other government officials to participate in the process.

UNOSAT Bangkok Office Will Facilitate DRR Work [viewed]

bangkok-office14 November 2013: The UN Institute for Training and Research's (UNITAR) Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT) has opened an office in Bangkok, Thailand, following up on a partnership agreement between UNITAR and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) to collaborate on disaster management, capacity development and satellite applications.

Event: Rights, Governance and Climate Change Workshop [viewed]

The workshop on Rights, Governance and Climate Change will take place on the sidelines of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It will examine the use of substantive and procedural rights to design, implement and support effective, equitable solutions to address climate change and related governance challenges. The workshop is expected to result in proposals for research and collaborative projects on the relationship between rights, governance and climate change. The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Yale University's Governance, Environment and Markets Initiative (GEM) are organizing the workshop in collaboration with the University of Warsaw's Faculty of Law and Administration and the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL).

Event: International Forum on Enhancing Resilience to Disasters in Latin America [viewed]

The UN Institute for Training and Research's (UNITAR) Local Development Programme and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), with support from Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MINVU), are organizing this Forum to help build an international platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and improving the resilience of cities in Latin America. The Forum also will discuss the development of action plans for implementation and local cooperation, using lessons learned from Japan, Chile, and other Latin American countries.

Mongolia Joins Partnership for Action on the Green Economy [viewed]
