Event: Third Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas [viewed]

The Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Americas is a multi-stakeholder forum that brings together key DRR stakeholders throughout the Americas. It is a participative space for knowledge sharing that promotes the planning, monitoring and collective decision making and strategy, as well as action to implement the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: Building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters, all with linkages to international and national climate change adaptation efforts. The Third Session is co-organized by the Regional Office of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) for the Americas, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Argentina, with strong participation planned by subregional DRR organizations such as Central America's CEPREDENAC, the Caribbean's CDEMA, and MERCOSUR's REHU.

Iranian Cities Join UNISDR's Resilient Cities Campaign [viewed]

5 July 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that ten Iranian cities, namely Fariman, Dargaz, Sabzevar, Kashmar, Chenaran, Torbat-e-Heidariyyel, Shandiz, Gonabad, Bajestan and Qouchan, have joined its Making Cities Resilient Campaign. The cities are all located in the disaster-prone province of Khorasan Razavi.

UNISDR Announces Five DRR Parliamentarian Champions [viewed]

3 July 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that five parliamentarians, from Bangladesh, Uganda, Cambodia, Senegal and the East African Legislative Assembly, have been named as parliamentary champions for their ongoing commitment to promoting legislation for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation.

Event: Fifth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

The Fifth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) will be jointly hosted by the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), with support from regional and international development partners. AMCDRR will convene under the theme "Strengthening Local Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)”.

16 May 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have released the results of the global survey titled “Progress and Challenges in Urban Climate Adaptation Planning,” in which 468 cities participated.

UNISDR Extends Making Cities Resilient Campaign, Releases Handbook for Local Leaders [viewed]

14 May 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has announced it is extending its "Making Cities Resilient" campaign to 2015. The announcement was made by Margareta Wahlström, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, during the 2012 Resilient Cities Congress.
