Event: Resilient Cities 2014: Fifth Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation [viewed]

Also known as 'Resilient Cities 2014,' this Forum is organized by ICLEI– Local Governments for Sustainability and the World Mayors Council on Climate Change, and co-sponsored by UN-HABITAT, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The event will focus on: risk data and analysis; adaptation planning and policy; comprehensive adaptation approaches; collaborative and community-based adaptation; resilient infrastructure and city-region support systems; and governance and capacity building.

UNOSAT Bangkok Office Will Facilitate DRR Work [viewed]

Event: International Day for Disaster Reduction 2013 [viewed]

The International Day for Disaster Reduction will be celebrated on 13 October, under the theme of 'Living with Disability and Disasters'. According to the UN International Strategy on Disaster Reduction (ISDR), approximately one billion people live with some form of disability, representing one-fifth of the world's population, and such persons have unique contributions to help reduce the risk of disasters and build resilient societies and communities. The Day intends to raise awareness of the importance of including the needs of persons living with disabilities in the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR).

UN-HABITAT, UNISDR Launch DRR, CCA Technical Centre for Southern Africa [viewed]

unhabitat-unisdr15 June 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) launched a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Technical Centre for Southern Africa, known as 'DIMSUR.' Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and the Comoros requested UN-HABITAT and UNISDR to facilitate the process to establish the Centre, which aims to reduce vulnerability and build community resilience in the four countries.

Event: Joint Meeting of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and Pacific Climate Change Roundtable [viewed]

This Roundtable is co-organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP). It is organized around the theme 'Strengthening Resilience: An Integrated Regional Strategy for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change for the Pacific'. This joint meeting will bring together actors in disaster risk management and climate change to discuss key issues, challenges and opportunities that can be taken into consideration in the formulation of an integrated regional strategy for disaster risk management and climate change, which is to be adopted by 2015, and which is to succeed the current separate frameworks: Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Framework for Action 2005–2015 and Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change 2006–2015.

Global DRR Platform Reflects on Increasing Losses from Disasters, Post-2015 Framework [viewed]

UNISDR Reports on Hyogo Framework for Action Implementation [viewed]

UNISDR23 May 2013: The Secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has released a publication, titled “Implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) - Summary of reports 2007-2013,” which provides a detailed account of implementation of the HFA, as described in voluntary self-reporting from countries and regional organizations. The report aims to inform current efforts to reduce disaster risk as well as the planning and development of the post-2015 DRR framework.
