Chair's Summary of the Third Session of the Global Platform for DRR Released [viewed]

3 June 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has released the Chair's Summary of the Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and World Reconstruction Conference, in which Asha-Rose Migiro, UN Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the Third Session, highlights that DRR should be at the forefront of efforts to preserve and protect the balance of nature, and ensure sustainable development and well being for future generations.

UN/ISDR Launches Media Handbook on Reporting About Disasters [viewed]

26 May 2011: During the Third Session of the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) launched a media handbook, titled "Disaster through a Different Lens,” which aims to assist journalists to cover disasters in ways to persuade national and local governments to invest more in disaster risk reduction (DRR) policies.

Global Platform Calls for Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation and DRR into Development Planning [viewed]

13 May 2011: The Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) took place from 9-13 May 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “Invest Today for a Safer Tomorrow – Increased Investment in Local Action.” The meeting built on the findings and recommendations of the 2009 Global Platform's second session, as well as the results of the Mid-term Review of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), and the 2011 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

Global Assessment Report Launched at Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

10 May 2011: Delegates from 175 governments and over 176 regional and national organizations convened on 10 May 2011 for the week-long Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, organized by the UN Secretariat for the International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN/ISDR). The Platform will focus on the links between the rising cost of disasters, how local communities adapt to climate change, and the status of poverty eradication efforts before the 2015 deadline set by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA).

African Working Group Agrees Accelerated Implementation of Regional DRR Strategy [viewed]
