UN/ISDR Awards Swedish City Role Model Status for Flood Protection22 November 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has awarded the municipality of Kristianstad, Sweden, with role model status for its efforts in flood protection. A city is designated by UN/ISDR as a role model when it demonstrates good practices in building resilience and safety in at least five out of the Ten Essentials of the "Making My City Resilient" campaign.

This appointment was officially made at the 19th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, which convened in Bali, Indonesia, from 17-19 November 2011.

Both countries are facing the highest rainfall in 50 years, due to Tropical Depression 12-E.
