9 September 2011: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)'s Asia-Pacific centre for training local authorities, CIFAL Jeju, convened a workshop on knowledge and skill sharing for more resilient and integrated disaster risk management among the region's municipalities. The workshop aimed, among other things, to build capacities for disaster risk management among participants from the region.

16 September 2011: The UN Secretary-General has launched the annual report prepared by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Gap Task Force, titled "The Global Partnership for Development: Time to Deliver." This report assesses the current state of the global partnership to meet the MDGs, and includes a section on access to technology and funding to address climate change.

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) and the University of the West Indies are calling for applications from young scholars, practitioners, policymakers and others from the Caribbean who are working in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction to participate in a Writeshop. Through the Writeshop, participants are expected to produce a peer-review, publishable quality article and they will gain enhanced awareness of the process of writing papers for academic journals. These skills will allow their work to be eligible for incorporation into publications of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other high-level scientific bodies and consequently inform policy making on key issues of risk and climate.
