August 2010: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has published the latest issue of its magazine "Making It: Industry for Development" on the theme “The Policy Choice.” With this theme, the magazine aims to highlight the notion that the real question about industrial policy is how it should be practiced, not whether it should be practiced.
This workshop will be held on the margins of the International Conference on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Technologies.
6 July 2010: A new regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) opened in Praia, Cape Verde, on 6 July. The Centre is supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Governments of Austria, Cape Verde and Spain, as well as through a special partnership between Brazil and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
2 July 2010: During an official visit to Kazakhstan, Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), urged Kazakhstan to increase energy efficiency and develop renewable energy sources in order to de-carbonize the power sector, help promote energy security and address climate change issues.
29 June 2010: During an official visit to Azerbaijan, Kandeh Yumkella, UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Director-General, highlighted that energy and environment remain a priority area of cooperation.
17 June 2010: At a workshop on policy options for wood energy in countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), national forest and energy experts discussed ways to accelerate the production and use of cost-effective wood energy in the region.
16 June 2010: In statements made during his three-day official visit to Japan, Kandeh K. Yumkella, UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Director-General, highlighted technology transfer as a key element of global energy efficiency and climate change mitigation efforts, and underlined Japan's potential role in this respect.
7 June 2010: Columbia University's Earth Institute has released a paper titled “Measuring Energy Access: Supporting a Global Target.” The paper was co-authored by various UN agencies, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the World Bank, among others.
23 May 2010: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is presenting its work on “Green Industry for a better life” at the Shanghai Expo, which itself is themed “Better cities, Better lives.”
28 May 2010: The fourth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on 25-26 May 2010. The Assembly was preceded by a Civil Society Forum and a GEF Council meeting, which took place at the same venue.
