7 December 2009: In a message to the 13th session of the General Conference of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the meeting's focus on how industry can become a vehicle for green growth.
The GEF Council Meeting will develop, adopt and evaluate GEF programmes. Council members representing 32 constituencies (16 from developing countries, 14 from developed countries, and two from countries with transitional economies) will be represented. An NGO Consultation will be held on the first day.
12 November 2009: Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), took part in the 2009 Annual General Meeting of the China Council of International Cooperation on Environment and Development, which convened from 11-13 November 2009, in Beijing, China, and addressed, inter alia, China's response to climate change.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Ministers' Summit convened in London, UK, on 10 November 2009.
3 November 2009: On the margins of the UNFCCC talks taking place in Barcelona, Spain, UN-Water presented a key message on Water and Climate Change Adaptation prepared for the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP15).
20 October 2009: Two new projects developed by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) aim to help achieve a sustainable transformation of energy practices in South Africa and promote environmentally-friendly production in Tunisia.
9 October 2009: From 7-9 October 2009, the Global Renewable Energy Forum 2009, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy of Mexico and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), brought together over 2000 participants from over 73 countries, including 30 ministers and high-level representatives, to discuss “Scaling up Renewable Energy.”
7 October 2009: In a message delivered to the 2009 Global Renewable Energy Forum, organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) along with the Government of Mexico, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged business leaders and governments to invest in green energy schemes that move economies away from carbon-intensive energy strategies.
11 September 2009: The International Conference on Green Industry in Asia, titled “Managing the transition to resource efficient and low carbon industries,” concluded with the adoption of a non-binding Declaration and Framework of Action outlining steps to reduce the resource intensity and greenhouse gas emissions of industries in Asia, and to track the progress towards a low-carbon industrial future.
