3 June 2011: The Government of Japan hosted a meeting on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Follow-up, to build upon the outcome of the UN high-level plenary meeting on the MDGs held in September 2010, and propose effective approaches to accelerate MDG progress. The meeting also discussed cross-cutting issues critical for the acceleration of MDGs, including climate change, food security and human security.

This workshop aims to exchange experiences between projects in Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, El Salvador and Honduras. It will include representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Participants will discuss: national policies for natural resource management that help to create strategies for climate change adaptation; links between natural resource management, risk and disaster management and adaptation; and synergies between different countries.

20 African countries building resilience to climate change, as part of the Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP), will meet in Dakar to share lessons on climate adaptation, build capacity, agree on priorities for the AAP workplan for 2011, and accelerate progress to make their countries more resilient to climate change. Since 2008, the AAP – a flagship programme of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with UNIDO, UNICEF and WFP under the Japan-UNDP Joint Framework for Building Partnership to Address Climate Change – is helping 20 countries in Africa to develop their capacity to design and implement climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction programmes that are aligned with their national development priorities.
