UNDP25 January 2016: The year 2016 offers a "huge opportunity to make real progress" on the inter-linked agendas of climate change, sustainable development and disaster risk reduction (DRR), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Executive Board recognized at its first meeting since the commencement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Board discussed the 'Report of the Executive Board on its work during 2015' (E/2015/35), and emphasized 2016 as a crucial year for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN Secretary-General Launches Climate Resilience Initiative [viewed]

cop2130 November 2015: At the opening of the Paris Climate Change Conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the launch of an initiative to build the resilience of the world's most vulnerable populations against impacts of climate change and natural disasters. Led by the Ban in collaboration with 13 UN entities, the initiative will enhance vulnerable populations' capacities to anticipate hazards, absorb shocks and reshape development to reduce risks.

Youth Prepare at Regional Level for SIDS 2014 [viewed]

UNISDR, UNESCO Convene Retreat on Post-Hyogo Disaster Framework [viewed]

19 November 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened a two-day UN High-Level Retreat to initiate work on a UN strategic plan for disaster risk reduction. Attended by representatives from 20 UN agencies, the Retreat was held from 19-20 November, in Paris, France.
