Event: Africa Climate Conference 2013 [viewed]

Convened by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the African Climate Policy Center (ACPC), the Africa Climate Conference 2013 (ACC-2013) will bring together stakeholders to identify the state of knowledge on the African climate system, including gaps in knowledge, put forward an African agenda for future climate research to inform adaptation decisions, and develop a framework for mainstreaming climate change into policy.

UNECE Workshop Discusses Transboundary Water Cooperation in LAC [viewed]

Event: Third Meeting of the Global Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves [viewed]

The purpose of this meeting is to bring together representatives of island and coastal biosphere reserves to discuss the main challenges and threats facing these areas, namely: climate change; water, energy and food self‐sufficiency; and waste management. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for participants to share experiences and potential solutions. The Global Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves was created at the 21st Session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2009. This Network aims to realize the potential of biosphere reserves in addressing climate change, particularly as places for learning about sustainable development and also for experimenting on mitigation and adaptation measures on climate change.

UNESCO Outlines Best Practices of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves [viewed]

WSIS Forum Recognizes Role of ICTs in Smart Climate Monitoring, Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

ITU logo17 May 2013: Participants at the annual World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum agreed on outcome documents that highlight discussions on, inter alia: smart climate change monitoring; women's empowerment; information and communication technologies (ICTs) innovations and standards; and cyberspace security. Participants also considered ICTs and post-2015 goals, reviewed the Implementation of the WSIS Outcomes and produced a Statement on the WSIS+10 Visioning.
