UNESCO, IHP Organize G-WADI Training Workshop on Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources Management [viewed]
5 July 2011: The Regional G-WADI Training Workshop on Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources Management in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones was organized on the initiative of the Tehran Office of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and International Hydrological Programme (IHP) Iran, to address: monitoring and modeling climate change; dealing with impacts of climate change; formulating adaptation strategies to climate change; and introducing international initiatives and activities of UNESCO in Iran.
23 June 2011: Irina Bokova, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General, and Walter Ammann, President of the Global Risk Forum (GRF) Davos, have signed a Letter of Intent to formalize and extend their cooperation in the field of risk management and reduction.
June 2011: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has released a publication that demonstrates, through a selection of 28 case studies from around the world, that UNESCO biosphere reserves are ideal places to test, evaluate and implement comprehensive climate change policies.
22 June 2011: The closing celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) aimed to promote international awareness of, and involvement in, ocean science.
May 2011: The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) has released the May issue of its newsletter, titled "GEO News" on new developments in the implementation of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), which highlights advances in climate observation collaboration in the US and Europe.
14 June 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with 17 multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), has launched a new webportal, titled "InforMEA," that draws information from the MEAs' individual websites to permit a user to search for information related to decisions and resolutions, news and events, meeting calendars, and national focal points across all of the participating MEAs.
3 June 2011: The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Three Rainforest Basins, namely the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong basins, took place in Brazzaville, Congo, from 27 May-3 June 2011, to establish new ways to increase technical cooperation on forest matters, and adopted a joint statement on tropical forests, climate and sustainable development.
30 May 2011: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has released the April-June edition of its newsletter Voices, which reports on UNESCO's activities in the Asia Pacific region, and features articles on science education and research in the Maldives, the environmental and health impacts of livestock production, and media workshops on coverage of environmental issues and the impact of climate change.
