23 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has spotlighted a waste cooking oil recycling project, the Turn Grease into Fuel (TGIF) project, which collects over 36,000 gallons of waste cooking oil annually, and converts the grease into heating fuel and biodiesel.

AMCEN Special Session Endorses African Common Climate Position [viewed]

19 September 2011: African Ministers for the Environment met for the Fourth Special Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) and concluded with the adoption of the Bamako Declaration, which endorsed the African Common Position as the basis for negotiations at the upcoming 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to take place in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011.

UNEP Climate Change Adaptation in the Alpine Space Project Completes Work [viewed]

8 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Austrian Federal Environment Agency convened the project completion meeting for the Adaptation to Climate Change by Spatial Planning in the Alpine Space Project (CLISP). The meeting, attended by 100 participants from the Alpine States, convened in Vienna, Austria, on 8 September 2011.

ICAO Announces Phase-Out of Halon-Emitting Fire Extinguishers [viewed]

16 September 2011: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), at the working group meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, announced that it has amended standards related to aircraft operations and airworthiness to phase out halon-emitting fire extinguishers on board.

UNEP Report Calls for Transition to Green Economy in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

15 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), IGES (Japan) and Chinese Academy of Sciences, has released a report titled “Resource Efficiency: Economics and Outlook for Asia and the Pacific,” which calls for a new “green” industrial revolution through improvements in resource efficiency.

UNDP, UNEP Showcase Small-Scale Adaptation Actions to Address the Food Crisis in the Horn of Africa [viewed]

15 September 2011: A new paper published in the journal Sustainability, authored by Richard Munang and Johnson N. Nkem and titled "Using Small-Scale Adaptation Actions to Address the Food Crisis in the Horn of Africa: Going Beyond Food Aid and Cash Transfers," showcases lessons learned from the Climate Change Adaptation and Development Programme (CC DARE), which was jointly implemented by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
