UN-REDD Reviews its 2011 Activities [viewed]

Event: The Role of National Development Banks in Mobilizing International Climate Finance [viewed]

The workshop will help increase awareness from a broad range of national development banks, local financial institutions and other key stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges of international climate finance. Co-organizers include the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), KfW Bankengruppe, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Federation of Development Finance Institutions (WFDFI), and the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP). It will provide for a platform to discuss: opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the Green Climate Fund; the role of treasuries and development banks in the coordination and leverage of international climate finance; experiences with international climate funds and market mechanisms; and recommendations to international fora and processes such as the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+ 20) and the Climate Change Conference in December 2012. This workshop is closed to the public and is by invitation only.

GEF-Funded UNEP-WCMC Project Focuses on Conservation Impacts of Climate Change [viewed]

20 March 2012: The University of Kent has announced that, together with the University of Durham, it is conducting research on mitigating the conservation impacts of climate change on protected areas in West Africa, as part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) financed project, led by the UN Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

Event: Workshop for Sharing Lessons in Africa on Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

This workshop on climate change adaptation in Africa, hosted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), is being held to provide a forum for knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas on common climate change risks, build on lessons learnt from project implementation to formulate common solutions in support of national policy processes and identify best practices for delivering adaptation solutions. The workshop also aims to engage key regional partners and policy makers across the continent on climate change adaptation.

UNEP Announces Norwegian Support to Climate Adaptation in Ethiopia [viewed]

UNEP14 March 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that the Government of Norway is providing US$1.5 million to the Ethiopian Environment Ministry to upscale activities to address climate change in vulnerable communities. The grant is intended to assist communities in addressing food insecurity and environmental degradation linked to climate change.

UN-REDD Newsletter Questions Whether REDD+ Will Work in Fragile States [viewed]

14 March 2012: The March issue of Go-REDD+, a newsletter of the UN-REDD-Programme's Asia-Pacific team, focuses on whether REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and carbon stock enhancement in developing countries) in its current form can be achievable by all States, and in particular in "fragile" States.

TNA Project Organizes Capacity Building Workshop on Technology Action Plans in Africa [viewed]
