ILO, UNEP Highlight Opportunities for Decent Jobs in a Green Economy [viewed]

ILO31 May 2012: The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have released a joint study titled "Working towards sustainable development: Opportunities for decent work and social inclusion in a green economy,” which highlights that the transformation to a greener economy could generate 15 to 60 million additional jobs globally over the next two decades and lift tens of millions of workers out of poverty.

G-8 Joins Climate and Clean Air Coalition [viewed]

UNEP22 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that all members of the G-8 have joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants. New partners in the Coalition include Germany, France, Italy, the Russian Federation and the UK.

UNEP Launches African Ozone Protection Award [viewed]

22 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), through its OzonAction Programme, have launched the Ozone Protection Award to provide customs and law enforcement officials in Africa the opportunity to provide descriptions and details of specific actions aimed at preventing illegal trade in ozone depleting substance (ODS) and ODS equipment.

Event: UNEP-SBCI Fall Symposium 2012 [viewed]

UNEP Reports on Climate Finance Activities in ACP Countries [viewed]

UNEP29 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe Centre has released the May issue of its Update on carbon finance activities undertaken under the “Capacity Building related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries Project.” Activities highlighted include: the redefinition of the institutional framework for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Cuba; and an update on activities in the Pacific region.

Workshop Introduces Proposed Information System on Amazon Basin Water Resources [viewed]

ACTO28 May 2012: A regional workshop trained national officials from the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) member countries of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela involved in the project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for "the integrated and sustainable management of transboundary water resources in the Amazon Basin, taking into consideration climate variability and change." The project is commonly known as the "GEF Amazonas Project."

UNDP, UNEP, WFP Support Reforestation of Haiti-Dominican Republic Border [viewed]
