Event: Ninth Meeting of the UN-REDD Policy Programme Board [viewed]

The ninth meeting of the UN-REDD Policy Programme Board is scheduled to take place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, on 26-27 October 2012. Pre-meetings to be held on 25 October. The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Participants Committee meeting will take place in the same location 21-23 October, and an optional field visit for participants of both meetings will take place on 24 October.

UNEP TNA Releases Guidebook on International Funding for Climate Change Mitigation [viewed]

August 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Project has released a guidebook, titled “Accessing International Financing for Climate Change Mitigation.” The guidebook aims to assist developing countries in speeding up the transfer, deployment and diffusion of mitigation technologies, thereby enabling countries to contribute to climate change mitigation and reduce climate change impacts while pursuing national development goals.

The outcome document from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) emphasizes that adaptation to climate change is an immediate and urgent global priority. The impact of climate change poses eminent danger to human well-being and development pathways in Africa where the resources and capacity to respond are limited. This is going to get worse as warming in Africa is projected to be greater than the global annual mean, with an average increase of 3-4ºC over the next century.
