UAE, UNEP FI Hold Sixth National Green Economy Conference [viewed]

uae_unep25 May 2015: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) held its sixth national Green Economy Annual Conference in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Finance Initiative (FI). The Conference highlighted the UAE Government's green economy initiatives, including its national 'State of Green Economy' report, which was launched at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January 2015.

UNEP Report Assesses Emission Reduction Impact of Climate Initiatives by Non-State Actors [viewed]

Unep Logo10 June 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has published a report, titled 'Climate commitments of subnational actors and business: A quantitative assessment of their emission reduction impact.' The report examines actions by cities, companies and sectors that could complement government efforts on climate change mitigation and save up to 1.8 gigatonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) by 2020.

G7 Schloss Elmau Declaration Affirms Copenhagen Accord on US$100 Billion for Climate [viewed]

G7 Germany8 June 2015: G7 leaders issued a wide-ranging outcome document, the Schloss Elmau Declaration, at the close of their two-day meeting in Germany, in which they affirmed the 2009 Copenhagen Accord agreement to raise US$100 billion in annual climate financing from public and private sources, committed to make the Green Climate Fund fully operational in 2015, and promised action on the post-2015 sustainable development goals (SDGs), resource efficiency, marine litter and renewable energy.

Event: Central American Workshop on Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change [viewed]

The Interamerican Institute for Cooperation on Agricuture (IICA), the Central American Agriculture Council (CAC), the French Institute of Central America (IFAC), France's French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and UNEP co-organized the workshop "Perspective of Central America Toward COP21". GEF Council Approves Largest Proposed Work Program in History of GEF Financing [viewed]

Participants at the 48th meeting of the GEF Council 4 June 2015: The 48th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted the largest proposed Work Program in the history of GEF financing, involving a total of US$709 million of GEF Trust Fund resources, plus an indicative amount of US$4.81 billion in co-financing. The Work Program encompasses Integrated Approach Pilots (IAPs) on sustainable cities, food security in sub-Saharan Africa, and taking deforestation out of commodity supply chains, as well as other projects and programs.
