Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Calls for Ensuring Means of Implementation in Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

UNEP16 January 2015: Addressing the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt called for the post-2015 development agenda to be supported by “clear means of implementation (MOI) that can guarantee success.” Giving a special address to the CPR's 129th Session, Sameh Shoukry cautioned against agreements with commitments that cannot be implemented, and recommended a post-2015 process that completes the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and draws lessons learned from their implementation.

Event: Global Landscapes Forum 2015 [viewed]

The third annual Global Landscapes Forum will take place on 6 December 2015, in Paris, France, conciding with the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). A successor to past Forest Days and Agriculture and Rural Development Days, the Forum focuses on land use as a key sector for achieving global climate and sustainability goals, and brings together stakeholders from different land-use sectors. In previous years, Global Landscapes Forum coordinating partners have included the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR) Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

UNEP, WMO Assessment: Fast-Track ODS Elimination to Accelerate Ozone Recovery [viewed]

unep-wmo19 December 2014: A report by nearly 300 scientists from 36 countries has concluded that ozone layer recovery will occur more rapidly if eliminating the production of the ozone-depleting substance (ODS) hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and managing other remaining ODSs, are fast-tracked. ‘Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion: 2014' finds that phasing out the small remaining uses of ODSs, which are currently exempted from phase-outs, would hasten ozone recovery by about 11 years.

UNEP FI Report Reviews How Public Interventions Can Unlock Private Climate Finance [viewed]

Unepfin5 December 2014: The UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) Finance Initiative has published a report, titled ‘Demystifying Private Climate Finance,' which discusses the concept of private finance, how it links with climate change mitigation and adaptation, and how public actors can mobilize it. The report aims to increase policymakers' understanding of private finance and introduce an approach that climate policy makers can follow when designing public interventions for unlocking private climate finance.
