SEED announces its 2008 Award Winners 21 August 2008: The Supporting Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Development (SEED) Initiative has announced the winners of its 2008 SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development. The SEED Initiative is a global network for action on sustainable development partnerships, founded by IUCN, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), to deliver progress toward the internationally-agreed goals in the UN's Millennium Declaration and the commitments made at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002.

First Inter-ministerial Conference on Health and Environment in Africa 22 August 2008: The Inter-ministerial Conference for Health and Environment in Africa, which will take place from 26-29 August 2008 in

Libreville, Gabon, is organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the

UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the host Government. The

Conference is scheduled to explore the evidence base for the bi-directional

links between health and environment, including the threat posed by climate

change to the health of communities in the region.

UNEP Announces Climate Neutral Partnership with Norwegian Rock and Jazz Festivals [viewed]

The UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) Climate Neutral Network (CN Net)

announced that two Norwegian music festivals have joined the international

fight against climate change. The two festivals are the first music events to

sign on to CNNet, which aims to federate solutions and actions to realize a

low, even zero pollution, world.

Global Trends in Sustainable Energy Investment 2008 1 July 2008: The

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched the Report Global

Trends in Sustainable Energy Investment 2008: Analysis of Trends and Issues in

the Financing of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. The Report notes

record breaking investment levels in the sustainable energy sector during 2007,

with over US$148 billion of new investment, an increase of 60% over 2006,

largely driven by wind power.
