27 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report, titled “Policy Implications of Warming Permafrost,” which aims to highlight the potential hazards of carbon dioxide and methane emissions from warming permafrost. The report also underscores the impacts of decreasing permafrost to ecosystems, and recommends an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment on permafrost.

21 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Climate Foundation have released the 2012 “Emissions Gap Report,” detailing that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are currently approximately 14% greater than where they need to be in 2020. The report states that keeping the average global temperature rise below 2°C is possible, with large emissions reductions from buildings, transportation and avoided deforestation.

20 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) has announced the release of an open letter from several of the world's largest investors to governments ahead of the UNFCCC negotiations scheduled to convene in Doha, Qatar, beginning on 26 November. The letter calls for a “new dialogue” on climate change policy to avert dangerous climate change and resulting economic impacts.

19 November 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened a two-day UN High-Level Retreat to initiate work on a UN strategic plan for disaster risk reduction. Attended by representatives from 20 UN agencies, the Retreat was held from 19-20 November, in Paris, France.

14 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Ozone Secretariat and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)-based International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) have have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to improve methyl bromide management. Methyl bromide is an ozone depleting substance used to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.

12 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre supported the participation of 12 representatives from Pacific island countries in the Carbon Expo Australasia 2012, which took place from 7-9 November 2012, in Melbourne, Australia. According to the Risø Centre, representatives from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu attended the Expo.
