20 November 2008: Reacting to a statement by US President-elect Barack Obama, Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), noted that the statement “confirmed that in the coming months a fundamentally new climate policy will define the position of the US.”
20 November 2008: A press conference on issues relating to
gender and climate change was held on 20 November 2008, at UN Headquarters, New
York, US, to recap a two-day meeting organized by the Global Gender and Climate
Alliance (GGCA) on how women could receive financial support for their
activities to mitigate or adapt to climate change.

November: The second European Science Foundation (ESF)
Science Policy Conference and Assembly will be held from 26-28 November 2008, in
Stockholm, Sweden, and will be organized around the theme “Global Challenges
and the Need for Cooperation: Lessons Learnt from Global Change.”
13 November 2008: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)
released a report on Atmospheric Brown Clouds (ABCs) that shows that, in
addition to affecting agriculture and human health, this layer of soot and
manmade particles can both aggravate, via the absorption of sunlight, and
counteract, via the reflection of sunlight and effects on cloud formation,
climate change due to greenhouse gases.
November 2008: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other US governors are co-hosting the Governors' Global Climate Summit, which will convene in Los Angeles, California, US, from 18-19 November 2008. In addition to government and sub-national “climate leaders” from, inter alia, China, India, the US, Brazil, Mexico and Canada, participants will include representatives from non-governmental organizations, academia and the private sector.
