Montreal Protocol Parties Set Roadmap for HFC Amendment [viewed]

Delegates huddle outside the plenary room on the last day of MOP 278 November 2015: The 27th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 27) adopted decisions on essential-use exemptions (EUEs) and critical-use exemptions (CUEs), and a Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) report on alternatives to ozone depleting substances (ODS), among other substantive and procedural decisions. Following protracted negotiations, Parties also agreed to a road map for negotiating an amendment on the feasibility and ways of managing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

Global Joint REDD+ Knowledge Exchange Day Shares Lessons and Challenges [viewed]

UNEP Emissions Gap Report: 2°C Goal Still Within Reach [viewed]

UNEP6 November 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has published its sixth edition of its 'Emissions Gap Report' ahead of the Paris Climate Change Conference. The report assesses the 119 intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) that have been submitted by 146 countries as of 1 October 2015, representing approximately 88% of global emissions. As previous editions, it then compares the resulting emission levels in 2030 with what is required by science to be on track towards the agreed target of a global average temperature increase below 2°C by 2100. The report notes that, while the implementation of INDCs will limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030, the expected Paris agreement can still encourage further action to achieve the 2°C goal.

SIDS DOCK Treaty Enters into Force [viewed]

sidsdock30 September 2015: A treaty establishing the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative – SIDS DOCK - entered into force on 30 September 2015, with a ceremony at UN Headquarters featuring the official handover of instruments of ratification by the first 11 contracting Parties: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the Cook Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles and Tuvalu. By the treaty, SIDS DOCK is established as an intergovernmental organization - the first global intergovernmental organization of island nations, according to a press release.
