Event: First Ministerial and Policy Conference on Sustainable Transport [viewed]

This conference is part of the Africa Sustainable Transport Forum, a high-level platform for discussion and policy decision making. The Forum aims to integrate sustainable transport into Africa's development and planning processes and increase funding to sustainable transport programmes in Africa, with the broader aim of improving access to transport, reducing air pollution and climate emissions, and improving road safety and health. The Forum also aims to share experiences from demonstration and pilot projects and foster South-South exchanges. The Forum intends to hold Ministerial conferences bi-annually, with Sub-Regional conferences in the interim years. The Forum is a partnership among the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the World Bank. UNEP hosts the Forum Secretariat.

Event: Global Landscapes Forum [viewed]

The second Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) will be convened at the margins of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC by the CIGAR Consortium's Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Government of Peru. The Forum will focus on integrating the landscape approach into the post-2015 climate and development agendas. Themes will include food, water and energy; climate change; the green economy; and sustainable development. The programme will include a wide variety of sessions covering topics such as REDD+, climate-smart agriculture, fiscal and trade policy instruments, land restoration and forest economics. The event will also feature a debate on the future of food security in a changing climate.

Montreal Protocol OWEG 34 Addresses HFCs, MLF Replenishment [viewed]

oewg3421 July 2014: Delegates at the 34th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 34) of the parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer considered: a progress report of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP); organizational issues related to the TEAP; the report of the TEAP on 2015-2017 Multilateral Fund (MLF) replenishment; nominations for essential-use exemptions and critical-use exemptions; alternatives to ozone depleting substances (ODS); the outcomes of the workshop on hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) management; and a proposal for extending an exemption for laboratory and analytical uses.

CCAC Approves New Initiative on Short-lived Climate Pollutants in Cities [viewed]

CCAC17 July 2014: A meeting of the Working Group of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) shared updates on partner initiatives and discussed preparations for key climate meetings in September 2014. The working group also agreed to a new initiative concept on addressing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) in cities.

Major Economies Forum Focuses on Finance, Nationally-Determined Contributions [viewed]

major-economies12 July 2014: Seventeen of the world's largest economies met for the 19th meeting of the Major Economies Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate. This iteration of the MEF focused on reaching the political consensus needed for a successful outcome at the 20th session of the UNFCCC's Conference of the Parties (COP 20) in Lima, Peru, in December 2014.

UN CC:Learn Launches Climate Change Science Guides [viewed]

UN CC:Learn1 July 2014: The One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (UN CC:Learn) Secretariat has launched two resource guides for those interested in gaining a more advanced understanding of climate change science: one on the fundamentals of climate science; and the other on predicting and projecting climate change.

UNEP Releases 2014 Year Book on Emerging Environmental Issues [viewed]

UNEPJuly 2014: UNEP has made available an e-book edition of its year book, titled ‘UNEP Year Book 2014: Emerging Issues in Our Global Environment,' which illustrates, across ten chapters, the emergence of current environmental challenges and explores innovative solutions to address them.

Workshop Addresses HFC Management [viewed]

UNEP OZONE13 July 2014: The Workshop on Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Management provided an opportunity for focused and in-depth discussions on key issues related to HFC management. Sessions addressed four topics, namely: technical aspects; legal aspects; finance and technology transfer; and policies and measures. The workshop was convened in response to discussions held at the twenty-fifth Meeting of the Parties (MOP 25) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol).

FCPF Welcomes Belize, Sudan and Uruguay [viewed]
