13 March 2013: In the latest “Our Perspective” publication from UN Development Programme (UNDP), Jo Scheuer, Coordinator of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Recovery, UNDP Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR), has emphasized linkages between development and disasters, and recommending disaster be addressed in the post-2015 agenda.
The symposium, convened by the UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD), will examine lessons learned from pilot activities linking REDD+ to sustainable development and the green economy. The objective of the symposium is to build a stronger business case for REDD+.

11 March 2013: Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Zimbabwe are addressing drought-adaptation and climate change through an ongoing UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) program, titled “Coping with Drought and Climate Change.” The three-year program aims to increase the use of drought-adaptation farming techniques and coping mechanisms and to facilitate sharing of experience and knowledge among the four countries.
This meeting is organized by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, and will be facilitated by representatives of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN)/CD-REDD, the Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the UN-REDD Programme. The main objective of the meeting is to develop a joint effort to support capacity development on: implementing greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector; reporting under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); and setting of institutional arrangement and facilitating communication among relevant stakeholders in Ecuador.
