The UN General Assembly has decided to convene, from 20-22 September 2010 in New York, a high-level plenary meeting on accelerating progress to achieve all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, taking into account progress made through a review of successes, best practices, lessons learned, obstacles and opportunities, leading to concrete strategies for action. Further, the UN General Assembly requested that the Assembly President organize and preside over two days of informal interactive hearings, no later than June 2010, with non-governmental organizations, civil society and the private sector, and prepare a summary to be issued prior to the high-level plenary meeting.

December 2009: The West African Development Bank (BOAD) has published a report in French on its role in the future climate change regime. The report, titled "New Treaty on Climate: Copenhagen 2009, role and place of the BOAD," discusses the enhancement of the Bank's environmental policy and proposed Carbon Initiative.

14 December 2009: On the sideline of the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands, the Government of Indonesia, and the European Environment Agency organized a special day to stress the central role of oceans in the Earth's life support system and to address threats faced by coastal communities, especially in developing nations and small island States.

16 December 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has joined the Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM), a collaborative knowledge-sharing platform on climate change adaptation. The FAO will strengthen the agriculture component of the platform and link its existing agricultural technology database (TECA) to ALM.
