Event: From Local to Rio: Linking Women's Low-Carbon Initiatives with Sustainable Development Policy [viewed]

This side event at the 55th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, is being organized by the Women's Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), and the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA). The event aims to highlight key issues of gender and technology and build support from the women's community for work at the next negotiating sessions of the UNFCCC, Rio 2012 and beyond. This event will draw attention to the roles of women as inventors, managers and distributors of low-emission technologies in the context of promoting sustainable development and effective climate change responses. Panelists will present successful projects on the ground and connect to women's leadership in a green economy, and highlight UN Women's goals in the context of Rio 2012. Panelists include: H. CBD Selects Experts for Asia-Pacific Workshop on REDD+ [viewed]

Event: Natural Resources Management, Food Security and Extension Strategies: Contributions to the Design of Policies for Climate Change Adaptation in Latin America [viewed]

This workshop aims to exchange experiences between projects in Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, El Salvador and Honduras. It will include representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Participants will discuss: national policies for natural resource management that help to create strategies for climate change adaptation; links between natural resource management, risk and disaster management and adaptation; and synergies between different countries.
