2 July 2010: The UN-REDD Programme's Policy Board approved an additional US$8.7 million to fund global activities aimed at supporting national REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of carbon stocks) readiness.
1 July 2010: Ravi Prabhu, Senior Programme Officer for the UN-REDD Programme, and Jan McAlpine, Director of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), delivered presentations at the Commonwealth Forestry Conference, taking place in Edinburgh, UK, from 28 June–2 July 2010. The theme of the Conference, which takes place every four to five years, is “Restoring the Commonwealth's forests: Tackling climate change.”
This workshop is convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the UN-REDD Programme and with the financial support of the Government of Germany. Its purpose is to support the efforts of parties in addressing reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) in the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in a way that contributes to the implementation of the CBD programme of work on forest biodiversity.
June 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/SBI/2010/INF.2) of the first meeting of the reconstituted Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE), which took place in Bonn, Germany, from 29- 31 March 2010.
This annual International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), organized by Transparency International with the support of the Royal Thai Ministy of Justice, will focus on how global and national efforts to reduce poverty and to deliver on promises for sustainable development, human security, curbing illicit trade and climate control have not yet resulted in positive change. The UN Development Programme (UNDP) will organize a roundtable on REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries) and corruption, in partnership with GTZ. UNDP is also supporting the plenary on “Climate Governance: Ensuring a Collective Commitment” and is currently preparing a background overview paper mapping the corruption risks and anti-corruption opportunities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
25 June 2010: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (UN-REDD Programme), along with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the Mexican Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), held a workshop titled “Measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), a roadmap for implementation at the country level,” from 22-24 June 2010, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
24 June 2010: The Adaptation Fund Board approved the first four proposals of concrete adaptation projects at its tenth meeting held in Bonn, Germany, from 14-16 June 2010.
24 June 2010: The Katoomba Group, an international network of individuals working to promote and improve capacity related to markets and payments for ecosystem services (PES), held its 17th meeting in Hanoi, Viet Nam, from 23-24 June 2010.
June 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) organized a workshop from 14-15 June, in Praia, Cape Verde, as part of the project on "Integrating climate change risks and opportunities into national development processes and UN country programming," funded by the Government of Spain.
