UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS Executive Board Highlights Critical Year for Sustainable Development [viewed]

undp-unfpa-unops30 January 2015: Members of the Executive Board of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP), UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) said 2015 is a critical year to reach agreement on the post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), disaster risk reduction (DRR), financing for development (FfD) and climate change processes. The 36-member Board provides intergovernmental support to and supervision of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS activities.

Event: Central Asia and South Caucasus Regional Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

Organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, the UN Development Programme - Kyrgyzstan (UNDP Kyrgyzstan) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia (UNISDR CA), and hosted by the Government of Kyrgysztan, this meeting of Ministers of Disaster Management and Emergency Situations of the Central Asian and South Caucasus countries will discuss and agree on a regional statement on cooperation and coordination in the implementation of the post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), to be adopted at the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR), to be held from 14-18 March 2015, in Sendai, Japan. The meeting follows a series of consultations held in the region since 2013.

UN-REDD Calls for REDD+ to Link Mitigation and Adaptation [viewed]

LAC Countries Exchange REDD+ Experiences [viewed]

unredd12 December 2014: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) released the outcomes from a South-South exchange on developing REDD+ strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean. The exchange allowed for countries in the region to learn and share experiences, and to develop specific actions to further national REDD+ readiness processes.

Forum Promotes Climate Action through South-South Cooperation [viewed]

UNEP8 December 2014: The South-South Cooperation on Climate Change Forum, held in parallel to the Lima Climate Change Conference, established the basic value proposition and importance of South-South cooperation, identified its enablers and constraints, and outlined options and mechanisms for promoting it. Through discussions with practitioners, policymakers and academics, the Forum contributed to integrating South-South cooperation into negotiations on the post-2015 climate change agreement.
