First UNEA Session Adopts Resolutions and Decisions [viewed]

Initiative in East Africa Launched to Address Illegal Logging and Timber Trade [viewed]

UNEP:Interpol:FAO:UNDP:UNODC26 June 2014: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda announced, at the first UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), an initiative to address the illegal timber trade originating from East Africa, recognizing also that illegal logging must be mitigated, and forests managed sustainably, in order to reduce emissions from forest loss.

UNDP Annual Report Showcases Achievements by Region [viewed]

UNDPJune 2014: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released its 2013/2014 Annual Report, titled ‘New Partnerships for Development.' According to the forward by UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, the report shows how UNDP is evolving in its operations, as outlined in its 2014-2017 Strategic Plan, and notes its alignment of efforts behind inclusive, sustainable and resilient development. Clark also emphasizes that UNDP “will continue a final push to achieve the MDGs” in more than 50 countries.

Newsletter Features Global Round-up of UN-REDD Activities [viewed]

FAO UNREDDJune 2014: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) released the second edition of its 2014 newsletter, highlighting the release of the updated database on emissions from land use. The FAOSTAT database, developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), includes data on emissions from agriculture and forestry as well as other sectors affecting land use.

Event: Equator Prize Award Ceremony [viewed]

The Equator Prize Initiative will present awards to the 2014 Prize winners at a high-level ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York, US, on 22 September 2014, as a kick-off to the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. World Oceans Day8 June 2014: The UN commemorated World Oceans Day on 8 June 2014, under the theme, 'Together we have the power to protect the ocean!' The Day also lent special attention to the designation of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and fell on the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

International Partnership Releases Global Good Practice Analysis on LEDS, NAMAs, MRV [viewed]

Partnership on Mitigation and MRVJune 2014: The International Partnership on Mitigation and measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Low Emission Capacity Building (LECB) Programme released an analysis of 21 examples of good practices in low-emission development strategies (LEDS), Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and MRV. The results demonstrate feasible and effective mitigation actions being implemented around the world.
