UNDP, GEF Progam Tackles Drought Adaptation, Climate Change in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Zimbabwe [viewed]

UNDP - GEF11 March 2013: Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Zimbabwe are addressing drought-adaptation and climate change through an ongoing UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) program, titled “Coping with Drought and Climate Change.” The three-year program aims to increase the use of drought-adaptation farming techniques and coping mechanisms and to facilitate sharing of experience and knowledge among the four countries.

Event: Ecuador AFOLU Greenhouse Gas Inventory Meeting [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, and will be facilitated by representatives of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN)/CD-REDD, the Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the UN-REDD Programme. The main objective of the meeting is to develop a joint effort to support capacity development on: implementing greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector; reporting under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); and setting of institutional arrangement and facilitating communication among relevant stakeholders in Ecuador.

IISD Publishes Reports on Adaptation Strategies in Kenya, Niger and Uganda [viewed]

January 2013: The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) has published three reports on climate risk management (CRM) in Kenya, Niger and Uganda, as part of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Climate Risk Management (CRM) Technical Assistance Support Project (TASP). Kenya Tea Factories Reduce Emissions via Increased Energy Efficiency and Use of Renewables [viewed]

UNDP20 February 2013: Kenyan tea factories are reported to have decreased their carbon emissions and increased their energy efficiency while increasing farmer and factory workers' incomes and productivity, following the construction of a hydro-power plant in Kenya's Nyeri district.
