Central African Countries Agree to Regional SE4ALL Vision [viewed]

SE4ALL21 October 2014: Central African countries have come together to back a regional policy on universal energy access and to promote social and economic development under the UN-led Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative. In committing to a SE4ALL Action Agenda, countries will focus on doubling the share of renewables and the rate of energy efficiency improvement, as well as ensuring access to modern energy services for their populations.

Event: International Conference on South-South Cooperation on Climate Change [viewed]

The International Ecosystem Management Partnership (IEMP) is organizing a conference in recognition of the growing role of South-South cooperation as a complement to North-South partnership on climate change. The International Conference on South-South Cooperation aims to raise awareness about this growing role, identify opportunities and challenges, agree on enabling conditions for promoting South-South cooperation, and create consensus for solidifying South-South cooperation's part in the expected 2015 agreement on climate change. Apart from an opening address and ministerial forum, the conference will hold six high-level panels in plenary on: science and knowledge for climate policy; adaptation and livelihood; capacity building for decision makers and practitioners; technology transfer for clean energy; ecosystem-based adaptation and mitigation; and enabling conditions. IEMP is a project of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UNFCCC Secretariat, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC) are also sponsoring the conference.

Event: REDD+ Academy – Asia [viewed]

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) are convening the first in a series of REDD+ Academies aimed at training REDD+ decision-makers in issues such as national REDD+ strategies, safeguards and stakeholder engagement. This session will bring together members of the Indonesian Parliament, environmental journalists, and REDD+ future leaders and practitioners from the sixteen UN-REDD partner countries across the region. The Academy will be supported by a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to be launched in 2015.
