Asia-Pacific Countries to Jointly Address Hydro-Meteorological Disasters [viewed]

logos_escap_typhoon13 February 2015: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) hosted a meeting during which representatives from 17 countries agreed to work together to build resilience to hydro-meteorological disasters through enhanced regional cooperation, and to share knowledge, review scientific and technological advances, and identify gaps across the region. The joint session of the ESCAP/World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee (TC) and the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC) was the first time the two groups met jointly in 18 years.

UNCTAD Event Discusses Linkages among Trade, SDGs, Climate [viewed]

The briefing, ‘Climate Change, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Trade: At the crossroads of sustainable development,' focused on commonalities and differences between these issue areas as well as on trade and implementation.

Efficient Lighting Workshop Identifies Policy Options for ASEAN [viewed]

lites_asia_unep6 February 2015: A regional lites.asia workshop on lighting policy, convened by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), considered opportunities for ensuring adequate market surveillance and harmonized policy for efficient lighting in Asia and the Pacific. More than 70 stakeholder representatives participated in the meeting, which identified policy options for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the broader region.

Event: International Day of Forests [viewed]

The 2015 International Day of Forests will be celebrated under the theme 'Forests / Climate / Change' in order to build greater awareness of the important role of forests and trees in sequestering and storing carbon. The theme aims to highlight how forests and climate change are linked and to rally global support for greater action and change. Event: Second Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples' Forum at IFAD [viewed]

The global meeting of the Indigenous Peoples' Forum at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will convene prior to the 38th session of IFAD's Governing Council. The meeting will focus on indigenous food systems and sustainable development. The Forum, which institutionalizes IFAD's consultation and dialogue with indigenous peoples' representatives at the national, regional and international levels, held its first global meeting in 2013. In preparation for the second Forum, regional workshops took place in late 2014 in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America.

Event: 38th Session of IFAD's Governing Council [viewed]

The 38th session of the Governing Council for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will focus on the theme 'Rural Transformation: Key to Sustainable Development'. The session will discuss topics including indigenous peoples and sustainable food systems, overcoming challenges to rural transformation through the post-2015 sustainable development goals, innovations in financial inclusion, and empowering women to transform rural areas. It will also include a briefing by Turkey on the G20 Presidency. The session will feature high-level officials as keynote speakers such as John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, His Majesty Tupou VI, King of Tonga, and Pier Carlo Padoan, Minister of Economy and Finance, Italy.

FAO Forest Newsletter Considers 2015 Agreements [viewed]

Mitigation Partnership, UNDP Launch Second Round of Good Practice Analysis [viewed]

mrv-lecpFebruary 2015: The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Low Emission Capacity Building (LECB) Programme launched a new round of the Global Good Practice Analysis (GPA 2.0) that will include good practice examples of mitigation-related activities in developing and industrialized countries. The first round of GPA examined mitigation actions in 21 developing countries worldwide.
