Event: Second Latin American and Caribbean Dialogue on Climate Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean [viewed]

The Second Dialogue is organized by the Government of El Salvador, with support from the EU through its EUROCLIMA programme, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and among others. Over 125 participants will attend from 20 Latin American and Caribbean Governments and 15 bilateral and multilateral agencies, civil society organizations and academia, along with international climate finance experts and climate finance experts from Asia-Pacific and Africa. The Second Dialogue is to discuss: climate finance mechanisms and instruments; inter-institutional coordination on climate finance; potential of the private sector for climate finance; and assessing the impact of climate change on public expenditures. The Dialogue will be followed on 31 July by a meeting of the regional coordinators of EUROCLIMA.

GWP Report Examines Water and Food Security in Asia [viewed]

GWP Global logotype26 July 2013: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) released a Technical Focus Paper, titled 'Water and Food Security – Experiences in India and China,' which identifies as critical the challenges of water and energy for food and agriculture. It stresses the “wicked challenge” posed by the complexity of hydrology, engineering, legal and political systems, sectors, institutions and agronomic elements that drive country outcomes.

CCAC to Fund Clean Cook Stoves, Brick Kilns Clean Ups, and Landfill Emissions Cuts [viewed]

CCAC26 July 2013: In a bid to reduce emissions of short lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), the International Working Group of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) committed to funding projects focused on clean cook stoves, cleaning up brick kilns, and cutting landfill emissions.

IAEA to Coordinate Project on Climate Change Impacts on Polar and Mountain Regions [viewed]

IAEA29 July 2013: Glacier experts prepared a plan for an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) project led by Chile and the Russian Federation, called the 'Impact of Climate Change on Polar and Mountainous Regions: From Assessment to Action,' to assess the effect of climate change on glacier retreat, permafrost loss and snow cover reduction, and to improve conservation and management.

Event: International Forum on Enhancing Resilience to Disasters in Latin America [viewed]

The UN Institute for Training and Research's (UNITAR) Local Development Programme and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), with support from Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MINVU), are organizing this Forum to help build an international platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and improving the resilience of cities in Latin America. The Forum also will discuss the development of action plans for implementation and local cooperation, using lessons learned from Japan, Chile, and other Latin American countries.
