UNESCO's “On the Frontlines of Climate Change” Forum Issues Call for Project Proposals [viewed]

© On the Frontlines of Climate Change1 May 2009: “On the Frontlines of Climate Change,” an Internet forum launched by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), has issued a call for project proposals. Funding, provided with the assistance of Denmark, will be dedicated to community-level projects showcasing local experiences with climate impacts and adaptation.

UNCTAD Holds Expert Meeting on CDM Challenges and Opportunities [viewed]

© UNCTADMay 2009: The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held an expert meeting on the “Trade and Investment Opportunities and Challenges Under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)” in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27-29 April 2009. The event included presentations by academics, research institutions and country experts who explored ways to facilitate participation from developing countries and least developed countries in the CDM, and provided examples of how to overcome existing obstacles to greater CDM investment flows.

IPCC to Prepare Special Report on Extreme Events and Disasters [viewed]

The Summit was supported by the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), the UN University (UNU), the Northern Forum and other international organizations, and attracted nearly 500 indigenous representatives, from 5,000 distinct indigenous groups across 80 nations, to discuss how to integrate indigenous views, policies, traditional values and visions into the global response to the challenges of climate change.
