4 August 2008: The
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released its 2007 Annual Report,
which notes that the nuclear development is increasingly shaped by issues
linked to concerns over and climate change, food and energy.
4 August 2008: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom Asia 2008 will be held from
2-5 September, 2008 in Bangkok Thailand. The event is being
organized on the theme “New Generation New Values,” by ITU Telecom, a part of
the ITU. The event will comprise an exhibition and a forum, and aims to provide
a platform for the information and communications technology (ICT) community to
explore the growth and investment opportunities available in the Asia Pacific
ICT sector.
31 July 2008: As part of the efforts to make the Beijing
Olympics environmentally friendly, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) is
providing four electric buses for use during the Games.
August 2008: The
Second Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO2 World,
co-organized by the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO)
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), is scheduled to take place from 6-9
October 2008 in Monaco.
30 July 2008: The Global Standards Organization (GSC) has
called on its members to share their views and experiences with groups addressing
information and communications technologies (ICTs) and climate change, highlighting
the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Focus Group on ICTs and
Climate Change.
31 July 2008: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is
organizing a regional meeting for the Latin American region, on the theme “Towards
an International Energy Management System Standard.” The event will be held
from 27-29 August, 2008, in São Paulo, Brazil.
29 July 2008: In a message to the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned
Movement in Tehran, Iran, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged a successful
conclusion to climate talks in Copenhagen in 2009, noting that progress towards
the Millennium Development Goals and ensuring food security have been severely
undermined by the climate crisis.

2008: The World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Expert Team on
Urban Building Climatology is meeting at WMO headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland region,
from 28-29 July 2008. The Team is one of the WMO Commission for Climatology's
Expert Teams focusing on climate applications to socioeconomic sectors.
July 2008: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
has released the outcome documents from its second symposium on Information and
Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Climate Change, held in London, UK, from 17-18 June 2008.
25 July 2008: At the first global scientific conference of the Global Cassava Partnership, held from 21-24 July, 2008 in Ghent, Belgium, scientists and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) called for a significant increase in investment in research and development needed to boost farmers' yields and explore promising industrial uses of cassava, including biofuels production.
