4 November 2008: At the conclusion of the High Level
Regional Policy Meeting on Networking Towards Gender and Poverty Sensitive
Energy Policies, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 3-4 November 2008,
the International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy (ENERGIA), in
cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and
the Pacific (ESCAP), launched the Policy Innovation Forum. The Forum aims to
help provide women and the poor with reliable access to energy.

Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development has announced calls for
clean development mechanism (CDM) and voluntary market projects in Benin and

co-sponsoring a meeting from 3-5 November 2008 in Paris, France, on “The

fourth session of the World Urban Forum opened in Nanjing, China, under the
theme “Harmonious Urbanization.” During the opening ceremony, Chinese officials
noted the importance of integrated development between cities and regions, with

Bangladesh, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that the financial crisis
should not “impede our efforts to fight climate change.” He described the
