Recommendations from UNESCO's IYB Science Policy Conference Highlight the Climate-Stabilization Function of Biodiversity [viewed]

February 2010: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has published the statement and recommendations from the UNESCO International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) Science Policy Conference, which took place in Paris, France, from 25-29 January 2010. The Statement recognizes that biodiversity provides critical goods and services on which our lives depend, including the stabilization of climate.

Event: 31st Session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme [viewed]

This session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will discuss a WCRP programme. A key topic of discussion will be the role of WCRP research in the Global Framework for Climate Services, including how to develop the next generation of applied climate research. Event: International Polar Year Oslo Science Conference [viewed]

The International Polar Year 2007-2008 (IPY) was an intensive, internationally coordinated scientific research campaign focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic, sponsored by the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This conference will celebrate and publish early results from the IPY, with particular emphasis on new knowledge about the linkages between climate change in the Polar Regions and global climate systems.

UNU Holds Lecture with Mexican President on Promoting a Fair Agreement on Climate Change [viewed]

2 February 2010:  The UN University (UNU) hosted the 16th U Thant Distinguished Lecture with President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa of Mexico on “Preserving Our Common Heritage: Promoting a Fair Agreement on Climate Change.” The event was convened in collaboration with Asahi Shimbun and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

WHO and UNDP Partner on GEF-funded Project on Health Adaptation to Climate Change [viewed]
