Event: Global Tourism Forum [viewed]

Organized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), this meeting will convene under the theme "Building New Models for Tourism Growth: Competitiveness and Responsibility." It will be the first meeting of all the major players from the tourism sector, public and private, as well as economists, academia and civil society, allowing the tourism community to reach out beyond the sector and demonstrate its role in the post-crisis sustainable recovery, climate change, and fair and inclusive development.

Event: UN/ISDR Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Reduction [viewed]

Based on lessons emerging from the Mid-Term Review of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), the meeting will discuss what the disaster risk reduction (DRR) framework will look like post-2015, both in terms of governance, resources, monitoring and compliance; and how it will fit with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and climate change framework. Prior to the formal opening of the event on 10 May, which will feature the participation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, two days of key preparatory, donor, intergovernmental and coordination meetings will be held on 8 and 9 May.

Event: Global South-South Development Expo 2010 [viewed]

Organized by the UN annually since 2008, the Global South-South Development Expo provides a forum to enable developing countries and their development partners, including donor agencies, organizations of the UN system, and private-sector and civil society organizations, to showcase their evidence-based South-South development solutions. Solution forums include social protection and decent work, food security, climate change and environment, HIV/AIDS, global health, and education. This third GSSD Expo will focus on enhancing the strategic capacity of developing countries in research and technology development, and will develop inter-regional partnerships in each of its core topic areas.

8 November 2010: According to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Weekly newsletter for the period 8-12 November 2010, an International Energy Center was inaugurated in Minsk, Belarus, on 29 October 2010, to attract domestic and foreign investment in long-term projects improving the efficiency of energy production and consumption in Belarus.
