UNEP, IDB Cooperate to Support SDGs and Paris Agreement [viewed]

unep_idb20 January 2016: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) have announced that they will cooperate on environmental conservation in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change. The IDB is set to increase its financial support to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to more than US$150 billion over the coming years.

UNEP, GEF Support Air Monitoring in Bosnia Herzegovina [viewed]

GEF UNEP19 January 2016: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has opened two air monitoring stations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and refurbished two existing ones. These steps will assist the country in: monitoring climate and air quality in line with national and EU law and prevent illnesses and deaths from outdoor pollution; ensuring accurate data is available to monitor climate change; alerting the public about pollution risk; and measuring the impact of policy measures to improve air quality.

Event: Sea-level Observation Symposium: Journées REFMAR 2016 [viewed]

This symposium on sea-level observation is aimed at those in the Francophone community interested in sea-level observation, including tide gauge network operators, researchers and scientists. The event, which will be in French, is being organized by the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the framework of the Global Sea Level Observing System activities.

UNEP DTU Addresses Uncertainty in GHG Emission Projections [viewed]

FAO Reviews Risks and Responses to Climate Impacts on Food Security [viewed]

fao_headquarters15 January 2016: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has released a paper reviewing the latest evidence on the impacts of climate change for food security and nutrition and options for response actions that enhance resilience of agricultural systems. The paper, titled 'Climate Change and Food Security: Risks and Responses,' concludes that reducing vulnerabilities should be a priority as poor vulnerable populations feel the worst impacts of climate change.

Event: Global Aviation Dialogues: Europe and North Atlantic Region [viewed]

This Europe and North Atlantic regional meeting will take place in the Netherlands to discuss progress regarding the work of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on a global market-based mechanism (MBM) scheme. It is one of several regional meetings forming the second round of Global Aviation Dialogues (GLADs), which will take place during the period from 20 March to 8 April 2016 at five venues across the ICAO regions. GLADs aim to ensure the full engagement of States and other stakeholders on a global MBM scheme for international aviation and to facilitate information exchange. ICAO is developing a global MBM as part of a basket of measures for addressing the contribution of international aviation to climate change.
